We run regular puppy classes throughout the year for puppies under 18 weeks of age at the beginning of the course. We are often asked why so young? This is because we want to start teaching you at the earliest opportunity. Puppies learn every hour of every day, whether you think you are teaching them or not, and commonly they are learning things that their owners would rather they didn’t. Often, this leads to owners finding their dog very hard to live with as it grows up. The eighteen week cut off for puppy classes is because it is at 16 weeks that puppies begin to lose their puppy teeth, their jaws become stronger and this allows them to become better bullies, which we definitely don’t want.
What is taught in puppy classes?
We teach you an approach that will allow you to teach your puppy pretty much anything you want to for the rest of its life! Also, how to understand why your puppy does what it does, and how you should deal with things you probably find objectionable. All our methods are based on sound science, which means they work well without causing you or your puppy stress! Classes are fun, in spite of being based on scientific principals!
We actively encourage children to join our classes (with adult supervision!).
By the end of the five week course, your puppy should be able to sit, stand and lie down on cue, respond to his name, start to understand about coming back to you when called, and play appropriately. You should know your responsibilities as a dog owner, know how to deal with common puppy problems like biting, chewing furniture, and going to the toilet in unsuitable places. Many puppies achieve their Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme Puppy Foundation Award by the end of the course.
Cost of course - £95
