Sometimes, through no fault of dog or owner, problems occur with dogs. These can range from relatively minor (jumping up at people, for example) to extremely serious (not coming back when called, or aggression towards people or other dogs). With the advent of the
Dangerous Dogs Act, any dog can have its life endangered by someone misinterpreting its intentions, let alone actually causing danger.
These problems are often due to inadequate or inappropriate training in early life, being rehomed through no fault of the dog, lack of understanding by an owner with consequent confusing signals to the dog, or frequently a medical problem such as hypothyroidism or pain from arthritis. These are just examples, there are a multitude of other possibilities.
There is no need to “suffer in silence”, or assume the problem is just because your dog is getting old/a particular breed/a “bad dog”. Many of these problems can be completely resolved with appropriate interventions, and others can be managed so that the dog is safe.
Morag works closely with your vet, who must see your pet and refer it to her, to help you to resolve or manage the situation. This is a time consuming process, and can involve close contact for a number of weeks. If you feel that you have a problem with which we could help, please contact us at enquiries@gelertbehaviourtraining.co.uk for more information.
Morag also works with cats and rabbits, for whom the same comments about training and medical problems etc apply equally.
